Design a professional development program with&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>learning opportunities for teachers on mathematical argumentation combined with other math practices; and&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><li>planning and reflection of their lesson through a cycle of coaching sessions.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>2. Investigate how these learning opportunities support teachers in integrating new teaching practices that result in&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>equitable student participation in mathematical practices; and&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><li>students learning math concepts and skills.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>To design the PD, we use a co-design approach, collaborating with experienced coaches to help ensure the program will work with real coaches, teachers, and students.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For research, we use both quantitative and qualitative methods to study effectiveness of our program. Methods include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>linear hierarchical modeling to investigate teacher and student learning of mathematical content and practices using survey and assessments; and<\/li><li>video recording and interviews to develop case studies of teachers to understand in-depth their journeys, experiences of learning, and how they equitably support their students\u2019 argumentation.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><em>Visualize Teaching<\/em>&nbsp;is a 4-year research design and development project funded by National Science Foundation (grant #1907561) with two goals:<\/p>\n<p>1.
